In 1914, he studied in Columbia University .He was the student of John Dewey. Dewey thinks that the school itself is a social institution and he is the most famous proponents of hands-on learning or experiential education. Tao learned from him and made his own theory. Tao’s name xingzhi which meant ‘action-knowledge’. School tries to make every student have variety choices based on their characteristics in their future life. 课程介绍 Course Introduction 我校作为一所特色外国语学校，秉承4Y课程理念。 4Y由四个英文单词首字母组成，分别是try、personality、creativity、happy，代表着“尝试”“个性”“创造力”和“幸福”。以4Y课程理念为指导，学校致力于打造“行+”课程文化，围绕行善、行思、行健、行雅、行创课程目标，创设“行+”课程群。 Except the national curriculum, we have our own school curriculum. We offer our students different kinds of courses to choose. This is “Xing plus” curriculum system. Xing means action, plus means more. “Xing plus” means doing more, learning more. The core concept of the curriculum system is 4Y. 4Y means try, personality, creativity and happy. This curriculum system is made up of 5 parts. XingShan, XingSi, XingJian, XingYa and XingChuang. “行善”XingShan “行善”与人为善，育德树人。孩子们在一年级会接受“国学文化启蒙社团”和“国学之三字经社团”的熏陶。朗朗上口的三字经，久远而悠长的中国文化，让孩子们了解自己是谁。二年级的孩子将会进行“语言智能社团”的开发，突破自己，大胆开口。三年级的孩子会更进一步参与“朗读者社团”，感受朗读的魅力。四年级的孩子则会了解中外传统节日习俗，在中外节日对比中更深化我是“中国人”这一概念。 XingShan means to be kind and to love your culture. In grade one, students learn “San zi jing”三字经 course first to know the basic principle to be a Chinese people. In grade two, students will get engaged in “traditional custom” course to learn more about our traditions. In grade three, students may take part in the “reader” course to read some Chinese famous books. In grade four, students will learn more in the course of “ Same or not” to find difference between Chinese festival and Foreign festival. “行思”XingSi “行思”旨在激发孩子们思考的能量。一年级的学生们参与了“创新思维拓展”社团、“趣味数独”社团。数独是源自18世纪瑞士的一种数学游戏。是一种运用纸、笔进行演算的逻辑游戏。学生们虽然只有一年级，但是他们能在此社团中锻炼他们的专注度和逻辑思维能力。 XingSi means to be wise. Students can know something about Sudoku puzzle. Students can choose the magic cube course. Through the formula, they can find their way to solve the puzzles. In their hands, the magic cube is not the toy any longer. “行健”XingJian “行健”体育学科根据课程的目标，旨在让学生拥有强健的体魄。其中，高尔夫作为我校特色社团在二年级整个年级全面铺开，开阔了每个孩子的视野。一次次的立正，挥杆，击球，看似轻松的运动其实有着不为人知的艰辛。一年级孩子们则参与了“欢乐足球社团”，足球作为世界第一大运动深受人们的喜爱。孩子们在运动场上自由奔跑，释放天性。 XingJian means to be healthy. There are many physical education courses to choose from. They can learn how to play golf. This is the most popular curriculum in our school. Our middle-school students can learn how to play baseball. After two-year practice, we have a baseball team now. Except the physical education courses, the psychology health is also important. Mindfulness-based stress reduction helps our students to reduce the pressure from studying. Heart-bridge course is a way for teachers to understand our students. Leaning some basic first aid can protect students in some dangerous environment. “行雅”XingYa “行雅”引领你走入美丽的艺术殿堂。一年级“简笔画”社团，孩子的美术入门社团。“简笔画”社团结合了学生们的年龄特点，让学生们能在简单的绘画中体会成功的喜悦。学生也可以选择课程来学习如何一起唱一首歌，了解一些中国乐器。在音乐中快乐成长。 XingYa means to know the beauty. Students can draw some picutures in grade one. They can make some little sculpture in their polymer clay course. They can use some colourful paper to make a nice picture in their paper-rolling course. Students can also choose the course to learn how to sing the song together. They can also have the chance to be trained to be a host. They can also learn some Chinese musical instruments. 片 “行创”XingChuang 行创的意思是要有创造力，有处理能力。小小园林可以让学生了解到植物的特性和种植方法。飞机模型制则能很好的提高学生动手能力和协作能力。动画制作课程则有助于学生创造性思维拓展。 XingChuang means to be creative and to have handling capability. The DIY gardener can let students know some plants and how to grow a plant. In the course of making model air-planes, students will increased The hands-on practical ability and capacity.
