What are the effects of these meaning events& projects? A： 我认为我对协和教科以及BC的学生做出的最有意义的贡献就是担任学校的男女篮球队教练。当我第一次来到教科BC的时候，学校浓厚的篮球文化向我扑面而来。 学生们对这项运动的热情和奉献精神令人振奋，运动员们在训练中所表现出来的能量和热情更是激励着我去不断去挑战他们的极限。这也最终帮助我们赢回了BCOS （加拿大高中运动联赛）的男女篮双冠。 The most meaningful contribution I feel like I did towards the school is coaching the boys and girls varsity basketball teams. When I first came to Jiaoke, I soon realized how big of a basketball culture there was at the school. The passion and dedication the students had in the sport was inspiring and the level of energy the players brought to practice motivated me to challenge them even more. This helped us win back to back BCOS championships for the boys team and a championship for the girls team as well. 图片 图片 图片 在课堂里，作为一名英语老师，我希望给学生们提供富有创造力的学术探究项目。这些项目不仅具有教育意义，同时也能勾起学生的兴趣。最终，在我和学生的共同努力之下，一共创造了两个以班级为单位的项目：《爱乐之城》项目和设计学校报纸项目。这两个项目都是全班一起完成的，学生被分成不同的小组，各自扮演不同的角色。经过几个月的艰苦工作、合作、研究甚至许多分歧，最终的成品产生了。这些项目所带来的成功在我的脑海里留下了深刻的印象。正是因为这些作品取得的成功，此类项目也得以延续到未来的教学计划中，并且成为了即将上九年级的学生们在他们的英语课上非常期待的事情。 In the classroom, as a English teacher, I wanted to give the students creative inquiry projects that were not only educational, but also engaging and fun. This lead to two class projects being made: La La Land Project and the School Newspaper Project. Both projects were done together as a whole class with students being separated into different groups having their own roles. After months of hard work, collaboration, research, and many disagreements, the final products were produced. I was beyond impressed as the projects ended up being tremendously successful. This resulted in the projects being repeated the following year and is now something the upcoming Grade 9 students look forward to in their English class. 图片 图片 图片 PART 2 图片 Q：您认为是哪些优秀的品质让教科BC的学生能够脱颖而出？ What do you think separate Jiaoke BC students from other students? The BC students at Jiaoke have charismatic personality traits and it shows in the classroom – how they have banter with the teachers, the humour in the discussions in class, and how they talk with their peers. They are doing this all in English which is remarkable. It shows their high level of cognition and intelligence as students even use code-switching at any given time at ease. Their amazing personalities combined with their focus and determination in education separates the BC students in Jiaoke from other students. 教师专访 给教科BC学生的建议 PART 1 图片 Q：您有什么建议想要给到BC的学生吗？ Do you have any advice for all the BC students? A：对于所有的教科BC学生，我想给到你们的建议只有两个字：冷静。你们只是正值青春的青少年，应当好好享受丰富别样的高中生活。如果你上过我的课，一定从我的口中听到过很多次这个词，但我任需强调这一点。没错，你的确应该重视你的学业，按时完成各科作业，在课堂中提出一些引人深思的问题，亦或者认真钻研教材及课本中的知识，能够在各种学科中获取到A的好成绩并且登上校荣誉榜。的确是一件能让你对自己感到无比骄傲的事情。但是，你要记得，熟练的运用勾股定理，摸索出元素周期表的规律，或者参悟出第18首十四行诗的文学主题绝对不是你学生时代的全部。你们正值青少年时期的最后阶段。高中生活会成为你人生中最特别的一段时光，因为这一旦结束，你便再也没有机会体会到这种富有青春张力的经历：不论是走廊里的交头接耳，成为运动队一起共患难的队员，还是放学后聚集在一起漫无目的地闲逛，亦或者更多。所以，当你在某刻为Mr. Shin布置的论文而感到冷汗直冒，焦虑不安时，记得要深呼吸，保持冷静，并享受这一刻。 To all BC Jiaoke students I have two words for you: lěng jìng. Relax, you are only a teenager, have fun and enjoy your time in high school. If you were in my class you probably have already heard me saying this time and time again. But I really cannot stress this more. Yes, you should work hard in your studies. Make sure you are caught up in your homework, ask thought-provoking questions, and study the material needed to learn the knowledge. Getting an A and being in the honour roll is an incredible achievement in school and something you should be extremely proud of. However, remember that memorising the Pythagorean Theorem, studying the periodic table and analysing Sonnet 18 is not the be-all end-all. You are in your last stages of your teenage years. High school is a special time in your life because once it’s over, you will never get to relive this experience again: the gossips in the hallway, playing on the sports teams together, congregating to the hang out spot after school, and many more. So next time you are sweating and stressing over Mr. Shin’s essay you have to write by tomorrow and you still haven’t even started it yet because you were too busy playing League of Legends, take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy the moment. 学生对于Mr. Shin的评价： 1. “ The most interesting person I’ve ever met.” 2. “ Mr. Shin has noticeably more connection to personal affairs of students. As a great coach, he leads the baketball team towards championship every year.” 7. “ Best teacher forever.” 教师专访 你不知道的另一个 Mr.Shin Mr. Shin 简介 我是韩裔加拿大人，两岁时移居加拿大温哥华。我从小便在两种语言环境下长大— 英语和韩语，这让我更加能够感同身受我的学生们在掌握第二语言时所遇到的困境。他们在构思时往往使用的都是中文，但却需要用英语来表达和写作。就读于中学后，我便开始认真对待篮球这项运动，在高中和大学都参加了校队。我的梦想是成为一名职业篮球运动员，但不幸的是，它并没有实现。最终，我成为了一名教师。我毕业于英属哥伦比亚大学(UBC)，获得了英语语言文学专业的文学学士学位。在此之后我决定继续我的学业并在UBC完成了英语文学教育的学士学位。我一直热衷于教学和辅导，我知道如果我能成为一名高中教师，我可以两者兼得。 I was born in Seoul, Korea and my family and I moved to Vancouver, Canada when I was just two years old. I grew up speaking and learning two languages – English and Korean, so I know how challenging it is for our students to learn a new language and be able to speak, read, and write in English when their thoughts and ideas are all in Chinese. Starting in middle school, I started taking basketball seriously and played on the varsity team in both high school and university. My dream was to play professional basketball, but when it unfortunately didn’t work out, I became a teacher. I graduated from the University of British Columbia (UBC) with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English language and literature. I then decided to further my education at UBC by completing a Bachelor of Education in English studies. I always had a passion for teaching and coaching and I knew if I became a high school teacher, I could do both. 图片 我之所以选择成为一名高中老师，其实原因十分简单，我想要将我的知识以最有意义的方式回馈给孩子们，并起到领导和帮助的作用。我仍记得我在高中时期最喜欢的老师。他是一位十分优秀的英语和体育老师。但真正让我对他印象深刻的并不是那些文学诗歌或羽毛球考试，而是他具有的幽默感, 他的平易近人，以及他对于一位本以为自己已经参悟这个世界的青少年男孩的人生建议。我想象着有一天我能成为一位像他一样的老师，一位教书育人，德高望重的老师。我想要让我自己的学生不仅能从我身上获取到丰富的文学知识，领略语言的魅力，能在运动方面，更是人生的成长道路上得到指引。 What made me become a high school teacher is simple – I wanted to give back and help kids in the most meaningful way possible. I remember when I was in high school and I had my favourite teacher. He taught me English and P.E and he was a great teacher. But it wasn’t the short stories, poems or the badminton test I remember. It was his jokes, how approachable he was, and the advice he gave an adolescent teenage boy who thought he had already figured the world out. I wanted to become that teacher, that person who the teenage me would look up to out of respect. I wanted to give back to the students as much as I could whether it be my knowledge in English language and literature, basketball IQ, or just life tips in general.
